Oracle vs. Google – Judge favors Oracle

Last year, Oracle sued Google for unlawfully using Java in the creation of the Android operating system. A US JUDGE has sided with Oracle’s interpretations of four of the five technical terms contested by Google.

Judge William Alsup issued a tentative claims construction order that outlines the scope of Oracle's patents, largely backing up the claims Oracle is making.

It’s still too early to tell if this is a major win for Oracle or if it’s nothing more than a pin prick but things aren’t looking too good for Google.

The outcome of Oracle's case against Google could have a major impact on the millions of Android devices on the market, but it's likely that Google will come to some sort of licensing agreement settling the dispute between them.

Both companies will have until May 6 to object with the judge’s ruling.
