PlayStation Phone to be called the Xperia Play and unveiled at MWC 2011?

Mobile World Congress 2011 looks increasingly set to be the platform where Sony Ericsson will announce the long anticipated PlayStation Phone, temporarily suspected to be known as the Xperia Play.

Trademark filings don’t necessarily translate into final product names, but folks have noticed a Sony Ericsson EU trademark registration for the Xperia Play and the company’s PR firm has registered various Xperia Play domain names, such as XperiaPlay.com, .net, and .org. Truth be told, the Xperia Play doesn’t sound like a bad name for the PlayStation Phone, though the PlayStation branding would be very useful too.

This will be unveiled not at CES next month, but at Mobile World Congress that is happening in Barcelona next February. Rumors point towards a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 processor, 512MB RAM, 1GB ROM, and a fairly reasonably-sized display for your phone and gaming needs.
