Linutop 3 an Small Linux Atom PC With A Fanless Design

Linutop line of computers has announced the latest version of the Linutop PC dubbed the Linutop 3. The Linutop 3 isn’t exactly using bleeding edge components. It has an Atom N270 CPU, which is a single core chip that was first introduced in 2008, but it should still provide a little more power than the VIA chip that preceded it.

The Linutop 3 features a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM and the machine can be upgraded to 2GB. The computer has 2GB of internal flash storage. The Linutop 3 has no fan making it silent.

Other features include six USB ports, one com port, dual audio in and out ports, VGA and DVI outputs with GMA 950 graphics, and the machine has no fan. The OS is Linutop based on Ubuntu Lucid Linux. The machine has software installed that you will actually want including Firefox, Open Office, and VLC Media player.

It sells for 340 Euros, or about $443. For that price you could probably put together your own, more powerful Linux-based nettop from spare parts. But it’s always nice to have the option to pay someone else to do it for you.
